Protected act Something the Equality Act 2010 protects you for doing - such as bringing a discrimination claim, giving evidence or information in someone else's claim, or making an allegation that the Act has been breached. Being subjected to a detriment because you did a protected act is victimisation.

- Protected characteristic
- One of the nine characteristics protected by the Equality Act 2010: age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Treating someone unfavourably because of one of these can be unlawful.
